As with the films of Emir Kusturica, whose characters also resist easy analysis, the people in Divided We Fall are completely and wonderfully human.
Overview
In 1943, a childless couple, the Čížeks, decide to hide a Jewish refugee, David Wiener, the son of Čížek's former employer, in the secret pantry of their apartment. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes
Top critics, in their words
Divided We Fall is quintessentially Czech, and it knows no borders.
Has the literary richness, depth of character and tone that such a morally difficult, powerful narrative requires.
A lovely movie, one that allows its characters unexpected spurts of growth and regression, darkness and grace.
A rewarding, courageous and beautiful work.
