Mundruczo works this stock tale into a deliberately paced parable of desire and dread.
Overview
A man comes home to meet his mother and sister after many years away. He finds his mother living with a new boyfriend, and his sister to be grown-up. He begins to settle down in this new place by building a new home for himself on the delta. But when his sister moves in with him and the two begin a romance, there are tragic consequences.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes
Top critics, in their words
For all its lofty thematic intentions, this thing has precious little to say.
Mundruczo generates a moderate amount of intrigue from the build-up but stubbornly resists handling his themes in any direct and digestible fashion.
A beautifully atmospheric vessel that will seem infinitely deep to some and chafingly dry to others.
Unreal characters and story shackle this gloomy tale of unconventional love between a long-lost brother and sister.
